What kind of tests would an eye doctor do to tell if someone is color blind?

I've been doing a lot of research on color blindness lately, particularly monochromacy, or total color blindness, and I was just curious what kinds of tests would be done and how they are carried out.

Also, how old do you think a child would be when they first started showing signs of possibly being color blind?

Thanks. :)What kind of tests would an eye doctor do to tell if someone is color blind?
There are a variety of tests that can be used. One of the tests that is often used for yound children is called an Ishihara test. There are some parts of this test that are called non verbal plates, where the child just has to trace the pattern a colored line makes with their fingerWhat kind of tests would an eye doctor do to tell if someone is color blind?

I know that the thing where you look at the numbers in the colored circles tests color blind-ness.

My little cousin was about 5 when he found out he was color blind
