Do you have to get an eye test to get those color contacts which don't improve vision?

I went to get crimson or red contacts for Halloween so I can be Bella the vampire from Twilight. :o)

I don't need them to see better, but the people in the Optical Dept. at Costco said I have to get an eye exam which costs more than $100 to get the contacts because they need to measure my eye. :o( Is there another (preferably cheaper) way?Do you have to get an eye test to get those color contacts which don't improve vision?
you do- all Contact Rx's (rx %26amp; non rx) have to come thru your local Oprometrist/opthamlologist- and the reasoning behind that is this: An eyecare professional will ensure the propfer fit and/or determine that you would be a candidate for contact lenses. I have tenure in the optical trade and worked with a doctor that kept a story in his waiting room that went like this in a nutshell- A sixteen year old who had bought contacts black market (without an Rx) went blind in one eye and nearly lost the other eye because the contacts were a wrong fit altogether- so- please, don't try to prescribe thyself!Do you have to get an eye test to get those color contacts which don't improve vision?
You just need to get your eyes measured so the contacts will fit your eye. If not, the contact could cut or scratch your eye, which in turn could lead to a severe eye infection which could possibly lead to having to get a corneal transplant. Ive seen it and trust me, you are better off getting your eyes measured. I really don't think it should cost that much though. Why don't you just go to a local optometrist? There they should have somone there called an optician that can measure your eyes by doing a procedure that mainly consists of taking pictures with your eyes with a weird looking machine. I don't think it will cost that much if you go to a place like that.
